Hi,

As we're in the UK obviously we're aware of the help being offered to individuals & businesses by the government. What is happenig in Spain regarding help for local people?

Much the same or similar. My family´s in construction (under the recent changes in  Spanish essential workers) have already received notification of re-imbursement.

Hope they move a little quicker than they have done with the "emergency " payments to the flood victims ...!!!

SPAIN is preparing to roll out a universal basic income in a bid to reduce the economic impact of COVID-19.

Economy Minister Nadia Calvino revealed the plans during an interview on La Sexta last night, saying it will help families suffering severe financial losses owing to the pandemic.

Spain: No ERTE or MUTA payments yet have been made to business or autónomos. Only business ordered to close in the first week of lock down are about to qualify for assistance. The qualifying period ends next week. Claims can be submitted first week of May. Possible payout late June. The ERTE requires submitting by a specialist lawyer at a cost of 450€. Small business with employees may have a problem paying the 450€ after no income for almost 2 months.

Autónomos continue to pay their social security payments. March is paid and no indication for Aprils payment. 1st quarter taxes and IVA are due as normal. At the moment only autónomos that can demonstrate a 75% reduced income qualify for a MUTA payment. 950€ + social security payments (payment possibly is reduced to 70%, 650€).

Autónomos ordered to close in the first week with a loss of 75% income may qualify for a 1500€ grant. Other autónomos with a 75% loss of income may qualify for a 750€ grant. 6 months accounts are required to average the loss of income. Many autónomos have already closed their business and made employment benefit claims.

UK: The UK assistance for small business is similar. If you trade one director Ltd company, umbrella company, recently sell-employed etc. The business may not qualify for assistance. Other small business must have accounts going back to 2016-2017 tax year. If you can not demonstrate 3 years trading profits it’s not possible to apply for assistance.

Tough times ahead for small business and autónomos.

As I see it. The UK have stepped up to the plate in assisting its business and its workforce during this crisis.

Spain ,on the other hand have merely paid lip service to the idea and pretty much thrown the ordinary workforce and small businesses to the wolves .

It will be interesting to compare future statistics on the recovery to their respective Economies in the future.

Will Social distancing be assured ? I am sure skilled autonomos such as Mechanics,Plumbers, Joiners, Painter and Decorators, Electricians and the like, will be really happy at that one. Not !

Autónomo tax payments for the 1st quarter have been updated. A 6 month deferment is offered. Payment in the 3rd quarter. First 3 months are interest free with a nominal interest amount in the next 3 months. It’s possible to make a voluntary payment at anytime in the 6 months period. Ie: pay at the end of the 2nd quarter interest free.

All the more reason to congratulate him and his team on the way they have supported the citizens of The UK. In their hour of need.

Well done to them !
