Hi Richard.
I have a place in La Zenia, and like yourself I am also a high handicapper. A friend of mine has a place in Torre de la Horadada. Because of covid neither of us have been in Spain for the last 12 months, but can't wait to get there when this Covid fog lifts.
Anyway, there are a lot of very nice courses in your area, my particular choice is Lo Romero, also like Roda Golf golf ,both of which are very close to Torre De la H..
I think the best way get into the golf scene if through the societies, there are three societies in the Cabo Roig area that we frequent. La Zenia, The stray sod Irish bar and McCaffertys bar in Cabo Roig. You can find all of them on the web. It is a great way to meet new people, very mixed standard , high handicappers welcome. The other thing is, it is the least expensive way to play golf in Spain, Golf plus buggy €50/55. Booking green fees+ buggy can be €75/80. depending on the course.
Looking forward to seeing you there after Covid.
Regards
