There won’t be many Brits left allowed to stay in Spain if they have to prove an income of €2400 per month I would have thought??

I think there is no reason to panic. No deal is very unlikely and even this happens, the UK will be back at the negotiation table quicker than frozen turkeys falling out of jet planes.  London has the third highest population of French citizens (Paris is the first). There are 100,000's of Spanish in the UK too. A deal will be agreed if the worse was to happen. Spain needs the pensioners and tourists spending money. London needs forign workers for the capital to function.  There is some good advise on the forign office website under brexit, then select Spain and gives scenaries under no deal. Nothing there that frightens me at all.

I went to Policia Nacional (Cartagena) again after failing to obtain appointment online, was told again that I have to get appointment online. Tried all online options again, the only appointment I could get is the option "informacion" which I selected and obtained appointment for next week. However I fear that they will not take my application for "residencia" because this appointment is for "informacion" only.

that maybe true from a legal point of view although both governments would work (and are still working) for an agreement to safeguard both Spanish citizens living in the UK and Brits living in Spain.  If 100,000s of people are suddenly forced to up sticks back to their native country, then i'm the pope.

All the illegals should have registered before. I was mostly taking about those just arrived like myself and my lawyer says I have nothing to worry about. My other point is that brexit won't happen on the 31st October so this should give those that are not registered more time. If there is a deal, then the 2 year implementation period kicks in. I was also trying to reassure pensioners as they too have nothing to worry about if the are registered here, even under no deal scenario. Some had suggested in earlier posts that their pensions didnt cover earnings threshold etc, which wont be needed under any circumstances.  3 million eu citizens in the UK have yet to register for settled status, what's the point as brexit could well be cancelled altogether. Majority of UK citizens now favour remain.

Just to update folk on Brexit if they haven't heard  today's news... The pound has recovered and bojo is getting closer to securing a deal. I guess he will do anything to stay in power!

If a deal is secured a transition period kicks in.  This means everyone has a very long time to organise residencia etc etc.

With a Withdrawal Agreement

The Withdrawal Agreement provides for a transition period until 31 December 2020, which may be extended. During the transition period your rights under EU Law will be maintained, with the following exceptions:

  • The right to vote and stand in elections to the European Parliament.
  • Use of the EU citizens' initiative.

Once the transition period ends, the Withdrawal Agreement stipulates that your rights of residence, work, study and social security will be maintained.

You can consult this European Commission document, which includes questions and answers on who benefits from the Withdrawal Agreement and what their rights are.

For more information on the right to vote and stand in elections, see the La Moncloa website and that of the Ministry of the Interior.

I am not usually one to share daily mail articles but I agree with mostly what is being said. I've always been very confident that a no deal would not happen and I predicted in June on twitter that Johnson would get a deal at the last minute. Journalists are starting to realise this prospect is getting more likely by the day...

If this fails to get through parliment, then I suspect he will resign and the other parties will come together.  Possibliy a 2nd referendum to break the deadlock after an extension.
