Hi all

I trying to submit a formal offer for a bank owned property and the agent is telling me that I need an NIE and Spanish bank account before the bank will even consider our offer which is the informally negotiated price!

Two questions, does this sound right, and what's the quickest way to get an NIE (we have an appointment at the consulate in London but not until the 25th April).

Hello, you definitely need the NIE and I believe, partly due to money laundering and payment of the final amount, you will need to have a Spanish bank account.
I've found this online;

For the NIE:

Hi Ray, thanks for your  reply and that is the route we are going but due to work commitments we can't get there until later in April.

We applied for our NIEs in person last year in Edinburgh. Still took 3 weeks.

Yes sounds right. Nobody will entertain you without them or a bank account.

Hi Craig, we're sort of resigned to that sort of time frame. We're hoping if course that the property doesn't get sold in the meantime!

Did you open Spanish bank account from the UK, in which case which one?

I believe you need to be present in the branch to open an account.

Lawyer recommended Sabadell over Santander and we've had no issues. I'm sure other will chime in with their experiences.

Start looking for a currency exchange service if you've not already done so. Get all your ducks lined up so you're ready to move when time comes.

Hi all

After a delay of a week or so, and athe payment of a debt owed by the bank! We are the proud owners of an Apartment on the El Mirador Estate....if that's what you would call it!

So approx 4 months from offer to completion, excellent support from Sandra at Blau Solicitors in Torrevieja, and Sander at CaixaBank in Los Mostesinos.

Due to work and other commitments we won't be we able to come out until late September, but we could do with a recommendation for a plumber as we'll need the boiler checked over and serviced and the shower on the solarium commissioned.

Can't wait!!

Tim and Sarah
