Hi!

We are coming over in a week and half looking at properties in the Torremendo area and would like some information about the general area.- what is it like for expat population, how easy to get to larger supermarkets and also about any expat clubs / pubs in the area.

We are familiar with Los Montesinos, Algorfa, Torevieja but this area is new to us, but due to increased house prices we think we get more for our money here, while not to isolated.

We are very interested in the Washingtonian style terraces, hopefully its set in a good neighbourhood.

Very thankful for any reply :)

In the absence of a reply from someone living in the area, I can say I regularly cycle through the area and have stopped at one of the cafes for a coffee a few times. I believe there is a small supermarket, Pharmacy and iron mongers there, so you’d be looking at going to San Miguel to shop at Mas-Y-Mas supermarket for a bigger shop. I have seen a very small weekly market and also what looked like a market selling second hand clothes.  It is very Spanish and I don’t think there are many Ex-Pats in the area.  an area where speaking Spanish will be an enormous help to communicate with locals.

Thanks for your reply.

I do speak decent Spanish (studied it for over 4 years) but also like to socialise with expats who share the same back ground.

On the other hand, husband doesn't speak much Spanish, nor will he be able to learn much beside the basics ( just the way he is)

I have seen on this forum about expats mentioning living in the Washingtonian terraces just outside the Torremendo or in the village itself.

UPDATE- after coming across (by accident) on a news report about a brutal murder (and his car taken) of a 75 year old guy in one of the Washingtonian style properties this July, decided that can's possibly live in there. Really sad about it because did like the look of the area and property, but wont feel safe.

Thats shocking and a bit of a dampener for you. Still better to know beforehand, rather than learning after you moved there. There is an urbanisation between Torremendo and San Miguel that may offer better value for money, I don't know if you are aware of it. Its near the Black Bull Restaurant Bar & hotel which has just got new owners. I know there are some Brits on the urbanisation as well. If you aren't aware of it, the link to the Black Bull inculdes a map http://blackbullsanmiguel.com/ Don't know if this link will work, but if it does, it gives an idea of the size https://www.bing.com/maps/aerial

Have you looked into San Miguel de Salinas as a potential home? Properties there tend to offer good value for money and there is an Ex-Pat community with British owned bars as well.

Thank you for your helpful reply :)

yes, we are looking around San Miguel de Salinas and Visatbella golf and found 1-2 potential properties that we will view.

It is not the easiest to finds suitable properties on line, talking from experience we will find more once we are there and can visit these areas and find properties for sale with estate agents not on line- or so I hope.

Hi. This urbanisation is Lake View Mansions. I have a friend lives on there. Quiet urbanisation. Nearest supermarket mas y mas in San Miguel.
