It's all dependant on the number of flights arriving round about the same time, which means potentially more people needing to travel onto Torrevieja. However, they are big coaches and in all my trips over the last 2 years nobody has failed to get on board.
Apparently you can buy tickets on-line, but how that guarantees a seat I do not know, for when the bus opens its doors it's a long, disorganised queues of people trying to squeeze on at the same time, and all having to pay the driver. If you had bought a ticket in advance you would still have to join the queue?!
My advice is to get to the bus-stop at least 20 mins in advance, that way you should be near the front of the waiting queues, also any luggage, incl cases AND hand luggage, needs to go into the bus's integral luggage hold, which is also manic with everybody trying to get their luggage stowed and also getting in the queue to get on board!
If you're travelling with somebody, one of the party can get a foothold in the queue, that way he/she can purchase the tickets en-bloc and pass the others back to yourselves further down the queues (which you would have joined after loading the luggage), that way you will by-pass the driver without having to fumble for cash to pay him/her
