Hi all, looking for a chimney sweep on a recently purchased property in El Chapparal.  Any recommendations?

The only other one I've seen mention of is:

Sooty & Son

660478881 or 607586684

Or make a booking through his Facebook page:

https://www.facebook.com/sootyandsonchimneys/

Or ask at any company who supply fires if they can give you contact details for a deshollinador.

Thanks Jim, I saw his business on the site and wondered if there were others. I'll give him a bell and see what's what.

Rang to book, and no availability until after xmas and New Year.  A pity, I would have liked to light the fire over xmas, but happy that business is going well.

What sort of chimney is it? If it's like a UK chimney, built of brick or block, then it may well need sweeping. If it's a steel flue then it shouldn't need sweeping unless there are ninety degree bends in the flue.

If you've not done so already, light some newspaper, shut the door, and see if the smoke is sucked up.

If not, then it may still not need sweeping, as it may be something as simple as a bird's nest at the top of the chimney/flue that needs removing.

A remote friend had this problem. I didn't know at the time, but the experts he called in said they couldn't easily remove the obstruction, which was a bird's nest, and removed the fire and then used a chimney sweep's rodding set to push out the nest. He spent quite a lot of money on a problem that could have been easily sorted by setting light to a firelighter and dropping it down the flue from the top.

We've got a 200 mm stainless steel flue and it's never needed sweeping.

Hi Jim. it's like the one's we have in UK/IRL of stone and cement (I think). I did try lighting a piece of newspaper, and the smoke came out of the roof okay. I'm just a bit wary of using it tho until it's got a clean. The previous owners clearly lit fires, bur I understand they only came here once or twice a year.   I might try lighting some papers later on and see if it works.  Thanks for the advice Jim.
