Good afternoon all

This is our first full summer here in Torrevieja .

Apologies in advance if this has been covered in the past but as soon as the temperatures increased ( Torreta 3 alongside the lake ) the smell increased to a very unpleasant level in the bathroom. We have tried many ways to neutralize the smell and would welcome any advice on how to deal with it .

TIA

Annie

The easy solution will be if you have a bidet which is not used and the trap may have dried out. We have a guest en-suite which is rarely used so once a week I run the shower and basin for a few seconds and flush the toilet. I also leave the toilet seat up otherwise we get mould in it. Another problem is the lack of stench pipes in Spain.

We’ve also duct taped over our basin and bidet overflows, and put the plugs in when not using, and find this helps.

We started this years ago when we’d have the odd cockroach appear in the bathroom, having climbed up the pipes. The blocking of the bad smells is a pleasant side effect!

It is definitely a dry drain trap. Run water down all bath , shower , sinks and bidet's to stop the oder as well as roaches .

You could all try using your bidets, then there wouldn’t be dry wastes!

That is the standard UK response. Personally I have used a bidet for most of my life and have never understood the remark.
