We are thinking of buying a house in Carrefour area of Torrevieja. We have recently read a lot of articles with a very negative feel to them, ie indicating that Torrevieja is not safe , with a lot of crime. Can somebody please give us an unbiased, up to date opinion, Thank you!

Hola Rossdancer i live in the area that you are considering buying a property in and have for the last 15 years, i also worked here in the security industry for a Spanish company for 12 years. The crime rate in this area is low on a scale of 1 to 10 around 3 we are no better or worse than any other area we have in the local markets your normal pickpockets but in any tourist area you will find this. We also tend not to suffer from stag or hen parties like Benidorm.                                                                         We are a mixed nationality area with a high number of retires who disappear for the summer months and return when it gets a little cooler, they are normally replaced by their younger families, please do not be put off with some of the fake news that goes around or the bar room gossip. We feel a lot safer here than where some members of out families  live in the UK , Just use your common sense and you will have a great time.Good luck with what ever you decide.

Hi Pete, Thank you for taking the time to reply to our message. Your comments have been re-assuring to us. Do you have any other advise about buying in Torrevieja,we'd love to hear from you. The whole thing seems a bit daunting!! We had a look at a few properties in February and are now in a position to start making offers . The estate agent is Soler Berna, do you or anybody else have experience with them. Thanks again, Ross & Chris

Hola Bill, thank you for replying. You have re-assured us about things. Can you give us any more information on the pros and cons on living in the Carrefour area? We had a good look round in February and was somehow drawn to the area as it is close to Habaneras and only 15 minute walk to the beach. The houses we have looked at were with the estate agent Soler Berna, do you have any experience of them and their legal team? As you live there permanently, what is the general feeling among the expats regarding Brexit? we are just a bit nervous if there is a no deal in October. We appreciate your time, Ross & Chris

Hi not a problem. What I did was to just send them a email with your requirements and they will look for properties and send you then through to see if you like them.

Hi we have just bought a property in the hills in El Chaparrall...we sold up in the uk and moved out here with our two young girls age 14 and 11.. we have been in Torrevieja now for 8 wks....we have only had positive experiences so far... there is good and bad everywhere and you just have to be vigillant like in the UK.. I can honestly say I feel happy and safer here walking round with my children than in the UK with all the gun knife crimes...inbox me I can put you onto who we used to buy our home out here and anything else... there is definately a mixture of cultures out here and lots of English to ask help and advise..x

Hi, as it’s already been mentioned, thieves will only strike when your in you property so it makes sense to keep it secure, they tend to look for things the can conceal easily. Cash, jewellery, credit cards etc etc, it is the same the world over just be sensible.
