I'm new to all this as I am just completing on the purchase of my first property in Spain. From reading other posts on this board I am aware that there is a yearly tax on property called 'Tributaria'. I am not exactly sure what the tax period is ie. if it's a calender year (Jan to Dec) or a tax year (April to March), but I believe that it must be paid by the homeowner by the month of October? (please correct me if I am wrong :-)   I would assume that the Tributaria tax for 2018 on the property I am buying would have already been paid by the seller. I was surprised therefor to find in my solicitors breakdown of costs an added €200 for 'Agencia Tributaria'. Am I missing something or is this normally included, or could it be for something other than the yearly tax? Unfortunately, because of the week-end I haven't been able to speak with him about it, so I'm just trying to get a 'heads-up' from you guys. TIA

Search or browse the forum - the topic has been extensively covered numerous times.

To summarise:

The Spanish tax year is the calendar year.

Non-resident tax is paid in arrears - tax for 2018 has to be paid before the end of 2019.

If you only bought the property part way through the year, you only pay tax for the part of the year you owned it.

The cheapest way of getting someone to prepare the return for you is:
