Hi I'm looking to retire in 3 years time and have been researching about buying a long term holiday home in Spain. However, I have owned dogs for most of my adult life and would  like another dog once I m settled there. Can anyone recommend the best areas for dog lovers , dog friendly beaches/areas/ vets etc, I wouldn't want to be too far inland, preferably walking distance to the beach or a short drive, also, are there any dog sitters for when I have to return to the uk for short trips. Thankyou

Hi there are lots of lovely walks along the cliff tops from Pilar de la Horadada down to Torreviejca.  I walk my dog from Campoamor to Caboig Roig. From Mil Palmeras to Pilar de la Horadada and Mar Azul to Punta Prima.  In Punta Prima you can walk to Playa Flamenca and keep going all all to La Zenia Beach and further.

Playa Flamenca has an "unofficial" dog beach where Spanish and other nationalities take their dogs to play and swim.  Sometimes I am there with my dog and there are 13 plus other dogs - we love it.  They all have a great time.

In the very hot months August/September sometimes June and July the paths can get very hot for dog paws so early morning or later at night is best time for walking them.  When you are here you will be amazed how many people have dogs and how people just love to help and recommend places.

If you are over anytime let me know and I would be happy to meet up for a walk with you and show you where I go prior to your doggy purchase.

Gilly

Hello, I live in Playa Flamenca, there are lots of expats here and they all have dogs, there are lots of vets and pet stores, and lots of walking places for dogs, in Los Balcones they even have dog areas for dogs to poo. Santa Pola has a dog friendly beach, this is not always the case, most beaches have certain times of year when dogs are allowed on them. I am sure your buying agent here could advise you, on this. Depending on where you are I have a friend who looks after all animals, including mine when I return to GB, you will find her on Facebook, Heidi Priest, very reasonable prices.Near Guardamar del Segura. They will collect if necessary.
