We left Sabadell over year ago because of the charges, some of which we were told were free but got further charges for. Integrity is more important than charges when it comes to banking and Sabadell missed out on both counts in our case.

We moved to BankInter and pay around E50 per year in charges, we opted to have a cash account rather than getting a debit card and draw cash as required with our passports. More importantly the customer care from the Playa Flamenca branch is second to none, friendly and honest. We pay our bills out of the account via direct debit and have made other purchases on the online banking which is available in english. If we need to use a card I use my Halifax clarity card.

Can I ask....do you have to pay a certain amount into your account every month with Bankinter?

No although I always maintain a balance. I am sure there're a number of better options than Sabadell, I have considered Caixa as well but I cannot fault the service from BankInter. We recently bought and sold property and the bankers draft fee was just silly I questioned it and got it below any of the other banks in the area.

We are also with Sabadel someone told me you will always pay charges to banks for non residents unless you have €600/€700 transferred into the account each month but someone on this forum suggested two accounts with different banks a standing order each month for €700 and just keep transferring it between banks I thought good idea might look a bit deeper see if it can work.

Two very good reasons I can think of 1= I am not a resident of Spain  2= I am not old enough to have a pension yet

I think you would have to keep a minimum of €700  plus in each account plus money to pay DD but you will be saving€140 a year in bank charges or in Sabadel’s case they will be giving you €140 a year instead of you giving it them.thats my home or half of my car insurance paid.

To many people on this Forum think everybody here is a resident receiving a state pension from the U.K.

Totally agree, I was about to reply to the comment but showed restraint as I am not as diplomatic as yourself. I agree with the sentiment of if you live in Spain and fall into the criteria to be a fiscal resident you should live up to the responsibility. But many of us are not in that situation.

Is the bankinter online service good?

for checking balances and transferring money, did they organise your transfer of direct debits for you?
