All non residents must pay this once per year, unless they are receiving income from other sources, ie letting out of property etc. In this case, any income must be declared and submitted on a quarterly basis

Have always paid  non-residents tax from the year after purchasing our holiday home. Our solicitor explained all the taxes to us.

Yes, you can do this yourself.

However, most non residents find this daunting and prefer to employ a gestor to complete/pay the modelo 210 on their behalf.

See https://www2.agenciatributaria.gob.es/wlpl/OV17-M210/index.zul if you feel confident.

BTW If you don't pay the non residents taxes nothing will happen for a good while. I've known people who haven't heard anything for years. Then the letters arrive querying your tax status, which isn't too bad as long as you're in Spain to receive & understand these letters. Fines & penalties will increase the amount owed and can make selling a property very difficult.

On the upside, the tax man can only demand payment & penalties for 4 tax years (5 years total)
