I too am with Sabadell and agree charges are exorbitant, so on investigation BBVA dont charge fees for nonresidents and you open and deal with it all online. I actually went into my local one last visit (in Uk at present) and spoke to manager(only English speaking person in bank) and he confirmed no charges but unlike Uk you have to rearrange your direct debits yourself(they dont "switch" like Uk). I,m awaiting next visit and will be doing it as you have to go close account in person. You can open a BBVA account, notify direct debits, fund with transfer from Sabadell or transferwise before closing Sabadell on a visit. I know others have got fee free accounts with other banks at a cost, ie. Take their insurances etc but BBVA have no stipulations. Check website for your local branch.Better to stick with a Spanish bank paying spanish companies.Good luck.

Pauline.

For a Non Resident 30 Euros a quarter is a reasonable charge.

Good morning Healther

Me and my husband have a joint account,if you can transfer 700€ a month you won't be charged anything for direct debits etc we are now permanent so don't have to pay the €30 only non residents

Hi

Thanks for advice does your bank charge you for transferring money to your Spanish account or which way do you do that as that is the only plus with sabadell I have a standing order and transfer a fixed amount each month it is only to cover general bills as they charge you for taking out your own money even at their atm machines

Thanjs

If you have a Sabadell account you are not charged for lifting money from their ATM´s.

If your with Sabadell and transfer €700 a month you can change the account to an expansion account.  I’m not resident and was advised by someone on another  forum.  It’s in the small print.  You do not have to be a resident to have an expansion account.  Contact them online and screenshot the conversation.  That’s what I did and got it changed over that day.

Clearly we have different account types as I have declined taking money from their atm using my sabadell card as they were going to charge me 1.50 I know one euro fifty is not a lot but it is mine for taking my own money out they previously got me to lodge my cash into my account and then charged me fir paying my non resident tax bill very unprofessional staff

As RayD says Sabadell are a great Bank, friendly and very professional, if you are being charged for using a Sabadell card in a Sabadell ATM better to speak to them rather than have a rant here, they will sort it out in no time.
