Just wondered if anyone uses the Sabadell bank in Torrevieja on calle Antonio Machado (just off av de last habaneras) and if so, whether they have English speakers available and general overall thoughts? I'm very much looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

In their advertising Sabadell state "we speak your language", which for me has meant whatever Branch I have gone to they have had English speaking staff.

I'd have thought the same John until the lovely lady (not!), who is my account manager (for want of a better phrase) at another local branch advised she didn't believe there were any English speakers at there.. in a discussion I started about me moving branches :-).  Pete's confirmation is fab so I'll pop in there and see about moving my branch to them. Fingers crossed!

You'd think so re online! :-). It seems because I didn't agree to my personal data being used for marketing, that means my current account manager is unable to tell me anything! So.. I email her a question.. about my account or enquiring about other products etc, and she refuses to tell me anything unless I go into the branch in person. Which is tricky from London (Spain flat is currently a holiday home). Honestly.. it beggars belief! I'm hoping for a more sensible approach with someone else at a different branch. Wish me luck! :-)

I too have only visited that branch once and had to queue for 10mns while a Lady in a wheelchair had completed all her banking (seemed to have 4-5 accounts!) but yes the young Spanish guy at the counter spoke very good English and gave good advice on my query

 - recomend you give them a try! - parking is easy - or there's a bus that stops just outside the Haberneras

Thanks Pete, that's good to know. Seems there are 3 boxes that can be checked on the agreement re commercial marketing... Unfortunately the English version Sabadell gave me hardly differentiates between the 3 options.. but that could be a loss in translation. However it definitely allows them to pass on personal details to third parties.

I agree with 20kikki. Have used this bank a couple of times and the guy who served me spoke excellent English and was very helpful. He even took me outside and showed me how to pay a bill using the ATM.

Ha! Well the saga continues. I went into haberneras branch first thing Friday morning, only to be told they didn't handle international customers accounts. I emailed my account manager this and she vehemently insisted the advice I was given was wrong. And that I should go back in and tell them! Don't you love her customer service skills. Absolutely no offer of help from her :-). Between the ifs and the buts, after walking 15000 steps on Friday between banks in the searing heat and taking up all of my morning, it was left for one of the tellers (note not my useless account manager, thank goodness) at my current branch to speak to the assistant manager at haberneras branch to see if they could help.  Clearly that didn't happen on Friday, as was promised, so I await to see hopefully early this week.

I also agree fully. And yes have just opened my starling account.  I was planning to use starling and TransferWise as starling do d/ds and TransferWise allows 200 euros cash withdrawal a month free.

But - having gone to all the trouble of dealing with such painful incompetence, and very nearly coming out the other side,bI've decided for now to use the Sabadell expansion account moving the required 700 euros to/from Sabadell/starling. All transfers are free for both sides, so all my banking should be free. That's the theory! :-)
