Transferring money from the uk to my Spanish bank

Hi Kim thanks for replying so quickly, my wife and I presented ourselves at the bank approximately 2 years ago gave them all the information they needed passports,NIE numbers etc...so they are not dealing with strangers, my concern is my son and his family are going to my apartment in Spain and we can’t pay any utilities and as you know they are quite brutal. Would you know whether you can pay your utilities from your UK bank thanks again John 

The Utility offices won't take cash payments. Water in the town hall will take credit card payments but you can get online with Iberdrola and pay their bills online. Quite easy to do if you actually have a bill for the contract info etc they will need.

I bank with Barclays in the UK and Detcha bank in Spain Barclays allow you to send £2000.00 a day no charges or questions asked all you need is to get what they call Pingit there are no charges at all g

If £1000 was sent today you would get €1047.00 in your account I just thought this would help 

Thanks, James, that's really helpful.  It shows that the exchange rate you would get is 1.047, as opposed to 1.072 with Transferwise (after deduction of their fee).  It demonstrates the point I've been making about people who say they aren't paying fees for currency exchange - they effectively are, because of the awful exchange rates they're getting.  If we'd both exchanged £1,000 today, I would have paid a fee of £3.95 and received Eu 1,072.66; you would have paid "no fee", but received only Eu 1,047.00, so £25 less with your bank to bank transfer.  Ouch!
