A wise sage once told me that there are two optimum times to buy or sell currency - yesterday and tomorrow - and he was (and is) right.

Example: The spot rate currently stands at 1.16 down from 1.1764 at 23:59 last night, who knows about tomorrow or even in just an hours time  ?

Fretting on the exchange rate is a mugs game and out of those who have to make regular transfers I think you'll find very few who have meaningfully benefited from it in the long run.

In any case one mans Euro gain is the next mans Sterling loss which can make a big difference to anybody going back as were are told hoards are.

Example: After 11 years in France I sold my house at a €35k euro loss but had I been going back to UK I would have made £55k profit !

Me too, got 1.1756 2 days ago. I actually tried to secure rate just before that was 1.1789 but it so quickly changed as I reached for my bank details.lol.

Pauline.
