Hi, I am making an enquiry relating to UK State pension. My 84 year old friend hasn't received his uk pension for 4 months, normally paid into his UK bank account. Is there anyone out there who has had a similar situation or can point us in the right direction.

Thanking you in advance

I think your or his first response would be to contact the UK government  pension people armed with his NI number and see what they say ,I have found them to be very helpful in the past,

There was a similar thread a month or two ago and it turned out that DWP had written requiring confirmation that the pensioner was actually still alive but the pensioner hadn't received that letter.

I can confirm this does happen as it happened to us, the DWP had written to us both here in Spain but we did not receive the letters so they stopped our pensions until we contacted them, a quick call sorted it out.

OMG- I'm shocked to read that the DWP have the cheek to query whether a person is still alive........... !  That poor Pensioner in Spain left high & dry with no explanation

Not everyone has an email account on their mobiles - surely DWP could query with the recipient Spanish bank as to whether a pension has been used- in the event of a death this would be relayed by next of kin!

This makes me so angry - not only are they making Uk over 65yr olds work extra years before they can claim their well deserved Pensions but now they're trying to claw it back by checking potential deaths - how very dare they!!!!!!

Hello

It's not a cheek at all, most countries do this annually when people reach a certain age. Some countries require you to take your passport to a police station & get acknowledgement from them that you are still alive.

I know British  people here that have had that message, they have many ways of contacting you - it really is no big deal, you just reply or get someone to do it for you.

Banks won't give out any information, this from the DWP is normal as sometimes nobody notifies them.

The main reason is to prevent fraud, unfortunately all people are not honest, I am aware of several occasions where elderly people have died and people (spouses or others!) have continued to collect pensions, also if a person dies and their pension is paid continiously into their Spanish (or other foreign nation to the UK) account, what will happen to the money, tied up in legal issues for years!
