Ok, I’ve taken Sam67’s advice on here and ordered this gadget.  I never usually get sucked into the Black Friday nonsense but I thought £20 off the usual price was reasonable.  I’ve gone for the best one available which is the 4K version (might as well I suppose).  It’s due for delivery at my UK address next Wednesday where I will set it up, download the suggested MODBRO app and then try it out on my UK tv.  It will be interesting to see how it performs compared to my existing Virgin BB/TV package which costs me £50 a month.  If it does everything I want then Virgin gets kicked into touch.

I may be back at the La Siesta abode in January so I shall bring the device and see if it gives me free UK tv programmes.  I know that it needs a WiFi connection here and that is in place.

So.....fingers crossed 🤓

Of course, if everyone starts using apps like MOBDRO, and stops paying for Virgin, Sky, Amazon, Netflix, BT, BBC licence, etc., there won't be any TV programmes or sport to watch.

Someone has to pay for the content to be produced. Nothing is free. Those of us who pay for streaming services subsidise those who don't.

If you are the kind of person who wouldn't steal a library book, why would you steal TV content ?

The argument holds water when apps like MOBDRO are used to stream content developed/paid for by the legal content providers.

You seem to think that it is OK to watch the BBC without contributing to it (unless, of course, you would normally qualify for a free TV licence in the UK).

Is that last question aimed at me?  If it is then it’s a pretty unpleasant accusation that you are making.  I’m simply trying something out which will be used on the rare occasions that I am at my Spanish property.  When, or rather IF, I opt for permanent residence here then everything changes and I would then, for example, sign up with Telecable for something more robust.

For the sake of a modest £29.99 outlay I fancy dipping my toes into something new to me.  I’m 67 years old and have paid into “the system” all my adult life so if I get the benefit of a few free hits from the broadcasters then so be it.  I will enjoy it while it lasts🙂.

Maybe I misunderstood what you meant when you said ...

"It’s due for delivery at my UK address next Wednesday where I will set it up, download the suggested MODBRO app and then try it out on my UK tv.  It will be interesting to see how it performs compared to my existing Virgin BB/TV package which costs me £50 a month.  If it does everything I want then Virgin gets kicked into touch"

You don’t need vpn as it slows your Wifi down, and Mobdro is old hat , you need downloader, then get Filelinked for all the uk tv you need

Thanks for that.  What do you mean by “downloader”?  Is that a necessary app?
