After getting hacked off by Google while installing new firmware etc on my mobile, I wondered what it was possible to do.

I could have installed the custom firmware without Gapps but unfortunately it was missing a file manager. Looking around I found half a dozen firmwares that could be installed but only a couple that were compatible with my old Sony on Android 11. One of the best candidates appeared to be /e/. Has anyone tried this, it appears to work in the complete absence of Google and does not connect to any other sysyem reliant on Google? It works with most android  apps and uses Mozilla for maps and Gogoduck as the browser.Any thoughts?

I have used Google Translate on your message but it doesn't make any sense.

Why did you use Google translate? The only term I can see that might be a problem is "Hacked off".

The rest I think is good English and uses terminology in normal use by people used to upgrading or modifying their cellphones.

I would not have expected a response from someone without some experience in this field.

With all respect maybe not as knowledgeable as you think!

I understand completely and have long run 3rd party ROM's both on Android phones and tablets, currently using Lineage.

That said although I understand /e/ OS is a fork of Lineage, which in turn is a fork of the now abandoned CyanogenMod, I have no specific experience or knowledge of it so unfortunately can offer nothing in that regard.

PS: I think you'll find it's 'Duckduckgo' not Gogoduck!

I can't be bothered with alternate firmwares anymore, although I used to see it as a big thing a few years back.

But fwiw, I wouldn't touch Duckduckgo with a bargepole afer this, as much as they may be okay now;

Yes you are right, It is "Duckduckgo" it was early morning!!!

I have always hacked/rooted my phones from the earliest Nokias and Razrs. It was easier then, Today it is harder and external interference is ever greater. I started looking for something else because everytime playstore or some other google app updated I lost some of my apps that I had installed or made. IAs an example I have used "Live Wallpaper creator" since Android 4.1 about 15 years ago. At Every update of google I lost the screen saver and other apps were also uninstalled, Using Link2SD etc with other partitions made it worse and I would get google messages saying I needed to format drive G etc. A bit like windows update that uninstalls some programs. I also use LOS (18.1 at the moment) and Cyanogen mod amongst others on my various androids. I keep an old dell for Win 98 progs for Moto and Nokia and an old pavilion with linux only which made it easier for HTC and chinese devices.

I will try /e/OS on one of my cells.

Glad to see I'm not the only Nutter on here.

Cheers

Thanks for that, I will check out Brave too any other browsers.

I do not sync my phones nor do I use them for mail. My main aim is to block interference by Google. I already block non local and other groups of numbers and Ads

Well while you ask I'm repairing a 50s  12" set at the moment that had been got at.

I like a live background on my phone, Used to use gifs on the old Razr V3 20 years ago.

Cheers 😂
