Okay, avanza bus users in Torrevieja, please tell me what I did wrong here:

i caught the B line bus at Bar Patricia to go to the bus station. At Calle Rossini, the bus driver told me I needed a new ticket. I thought the bus was terminating there, so got off, but he beckoned me back on (there was only one other passenger - who wasn't spoken to) and just said "new ticket". So I paid my euro 50 again and stayed on the bus. My question is, why did I pay twice? The route is circular so I thought you just paid the fare and got on and off wherever you pleased. I need to know the rules because I'm thinking of buying a house on that route. Thanks folks.

Hello Yvonne,

Once youhave passed the end of the bus route, which looks like Calle Rossini, you are then heading back to Torrevieja which is a seperate journey, so you pay again. If I board the bus in La Mata, as it turns round  in the centre of Torrevieja for its return journey - I would be asked to pay again. ( I have free bus travel).

Torrevieja residents can apply for a Citizens Card which is also a bus pass,  among other things..... initially €7 for the card and free from then on , renewed annually (free again)  The other passenger probably had a bus pass

Hope that is understandable

Cheers

Thank you, that does explain it. I've caught the bus a few times this week, must have just struck lucky with the drivers!

Yes, I'll definitely get a residents pass when I'm eligible. Do you have to swipe that twice too?

 Hello

Haha I don't know because I always get off in Torrevieja, it doesn't seem so important when no cash is involved  but I have seen drivers go to people still seated when we reach Hotel Fontana , Calle Ramon Gallud -- which is end of journey for A bus

Cheers

Yes if you get on the La Mata bus/linea A say outside the bus station and want to go to La Mata you are on the inward journey and pay €1.50 and again at Hotel Fontana you have to pay another €1.50 as you are starting a new outward journey.

I was really puzzled by this when it happened to me, until I noticed a tab on the avanza app for return journeys - I'd thought the only stops were the ones on the outward journeys so the idea of a "terminus" didn't seem fair.

Anyway, thank you for the replies - I think I'm just a bit of an idiot!

By the way, I can recommend the avanza app - it tells you when the next bus is due at any stop on the Torre lines. It's been a godsend to me this week as I've been sussing out areas to live.

I use the B line fairly regularly and always understood it to be 1 fare wherever you got off.

Hello

If you look at the bus timetables  -( available from  Tourist Information Bureau)  it tells you where each journey begins & ends.....Every route does 2 journeys into & out of Torrevieja

You can get the residents bus card at a little office inside the central market "La Plasa". Bear in mind that Torrevieja is going to improve the urban transport service and at some point residents under 65 will have to pay for the bus tickets. :( They are going to improve the bus routes (as I understood) and there will be monthly cards available. I don't know when this will happen though... I read a spanish article a few months ago.

Just found this one in English:

That's interesting, thanks Izzy.

Typical that the residents' free permit will be discontinued once I get there, lol.

I'm guessing that the multi-trip card will be the most appropriate for me, as an under-65 retiree.

Good that the service is expanding to later final buses and a few night buses too. Makes events in the town centre more accessible.

Any idea when this is going to happen?
