In March this year, when the Covid pandemic hit us all, during the first lockdown period I started to paint. The many people to whom I had shown my pictures on my mobile phone and then asked to see the real thing, all agreed that both were fabulous. So me, being me, began to ask how much they thought each picture was worth. The average suggested price was around €12,000. That struck me as being about right, since I have already sold two others. One for £15,000 to a couple returning to England and the other for €10,000 to another artist who wants to use it as a model upon which to base his future work. Why ?
What is unusual about my work is that only about 1 per cent is actually oil paint. And this was only so that I could get the colour right for the silver bark of the trees and the bright green of the leaves.
Remember, that I was working from home when, like everyone else, I was taken unawares by the imposition of the 'lockdown'. So I had to use what I had available. And this was limited to:
( i) pencils and crayons;
( ii) blue, black and red biro pens;
(iii) felt tip 'Marker' pens in 5 colours; and
(iv) 'white 'Tippex'.
If you would be kind enough to forward your email address, I will be happy to send you the photos of the two paintings that I am wanting to sell, in order to buy myself the motor car that I've taken a fancy to - a VW EON cabriolet where either a Sunshine roof opens or, at the pull of a lever, the whole roof folds back. Ideal, for a 79 year old playboy.
Commander Geoff.
