Collected my Digital Certificate yesterday from the town Hall. Straight forward no issues until I tried to generate it on line. Cannot be done on a mobile phone or tablet.

I don't have a lap top or PC.

Can anybody who has experienced this problem please advise as follows.

Can I generate it on a public computer Internet cafe style?

Having generated it will it then be linked to my mobile phone to allow me to use it when necessary?

Thanks in advance.

It's that long ago since I did it (I've had it and since had to renew a couple of years ago so it's at least 5 years+).

The "certificate" is a file on your computer as I have copied it onto a USB stick to enable me to put it on a different laptop/desktop so you can definitely move it around/have it on multiple devices.

I suspect to get it on my phone, I emailed it to myself and then accessed that email on my phone.

I'd be reluctant to try and set it up on at an internet cafe or some such as you may be restricted in terms of copying/installing files on such a machine let alone any security issues - is there one you know and trust who you could go round to and do on their laptop/desktop?

I wasn't as savvy as George55 and just did it on my PC but it means I can only use it on that actual PC. I might try doing what he says and email myself and then open it on my phone to see if it works.

Although, at my age, I don't like using the phone as I can't see it very well and the buttons are very small even with a Google Pixel phone (ah, the pleasures of growing old.)

You can certainly copy your installed certificate onto a memory stick, for example, because I've done it myself for security reasons. When my computer hard drive was corrupted and had to be replaced, I was able to install this copy onto my new hard drive.

I don't know if it can be installed onto a phone but I'm sure you can find the answer by Googling the interweb.

Assuming it's an ACCV certificate, you should be able to download it on any computer.

I'm not sure about FNMT certificates, but it used to be that you could only download it on the computer and browser from which you requested it.

I agree with George55 that it would be safer to download it on a friend's computer, send it to yourself, and then do a permanent delete from the friend's computer. I've downloaded elec certs for several people, but then they trusted me.

Once you've got the file on your phone or tablet, just tap on it and follow the prompts to install it - only takes a few seconds.

Make sure you save a backup copy somewhere secure.

I was told by our gestor that, theoretically, they can be downloaded to a phone but in reality it is impossible............

Most definitely do not install it using an  computer in an internet cafe. It’s a file stored on the computer, so when that when you go onto a government site and click onto the bit to enter with a digital certificate, a pop up box automatically appears  with your name on it and you click on that to enter  - there’s no pin or password required once the certificate has been installed. So any other user of the computer can go onto any  (government) website, click to enter via a digital certificate and access your details.
I did email the file, but couldn’t get it to save/work  to my iPhone.

Perhaps if you want to use it on a mobile device you’d be better off with a clave. When you first open the app you can request for an activation code to be posted to you. It’s a much simpler process.

Remember the digital certificate has to be activated within 14 days.

Thanks everyone, a lot of useful advice and information. I don't see the point in having it without having a lap top or PC. I only wanted to change the address on my driving licence. Looks like a visit to Elche traffico.

You can do that with a clave as you can then access the miDGT app. The app also alleviates the need to carry your license around with you.

Remember that, if you've changed address, you need to change both the address of your driving license and also that of your vehicle.

The license address is that to which any notifications from DGT will be sent, and the vehicle address determines which municipality will charge you with road tax - IVTM.
