My laptop is getting very old and really wants replacing, my question is do I replace it in the UK or wait until our permanent move to Spain. I don't know whether it would just require a language change or keyboard language alteration, warranties an issue? I do have a lot of English files that I would like to save onto a memory stick. I look forward to your advice and recommendations.

Hi,

Personally I would get a new one whilst you are in the UK. I bought a new one last year and was limited to choice for an English keyboard. As we are in Spain most laptops here have the Spanish keyboard.

Agree.

I did the same thing last year for the same reason.

I bought a new laptop here last year, yes, technically Spanish keyboard, but had system all set up in English. Keyboard hasn’t been a problem. Can also change required language for typing from English to Spanish and back again through settings.

And the advantage of here is that should anything go wrong, as it did in mega terms some while ago due to a sudden big snarl up with the printer, I put the whole lot in the car and took it to the local computer shop from where I’d bought it.

Hi Pete,

I bought a new laptop here in Spain last year, as I wanted the benefit of the guarantee.  It's actually really handy to have the Spanish keyboard for things such as my Spanish language homework.  Apart from the ñ and ç, the keyboard is pretty similar to a UK keyboard layout, and I can toggle between the two languages just by selecting which I want on the toolbar at the bottom of the page.  I've had no problem with any of the files I produced in the UK when I access them on my Spanish laptop.  I'd also recommend checking any UK guarantee: we bought several new items with us when we moved to Spain - a Dyson vacuum, a Sonos soundbar and a Panasonic microwave - and none of the guarantees are valid outside of the UK.

Kind regards,

Kim
