Hi My wife and I have Spanish residencia and we are not yet at the UK retirement age so are covered for health with a private medical insurance. We don't have a SIP card because on application our old E111 cards had expired. Can anyone tell us with our circumstances how we can get the booster jab here in Spain ( Torrevieja area ) Kind regards.

Hi bobbyboy,

You don't say where you had your original vaccinations, but do you have the official certificate?  If so, you should take it, along with your TIE/residency, proof of PHI and Padron certificate, to your nearest health centre and ask for an appointment to get the booster.

Kind regards,

Kim

Hi Kim

Thank you so much for getting back to me. Just one thing what do you mean by PHI.

Kind regards

Bob

Hi Bob,

Sorry, PHI = private health insurance.

Your health centre may only want some of the documents I've listed, it varies between centres, but better to take everything.  If you have the old style green residency registration, rather than a TIE, take your passport as well.

No need for the kitchen sink though 😉

Kind regards,

Kim

We’re you issued with a temporary SIP card/ number to obtain your 1st & 2nd jabs.

If so, even if it looks as though it’s expired, lots of people on here have been able to get the 3rd jab without having to update the SIP card.

Torrevieja Hospital haven’t announced next weeks walk in dates, but for the past few weeks it’s been Tuesday to Friday 9.00 - 14.30.

It could be worthwhile checking there.

Hi Lynn No were weren't issued with our temporary SIP cards because on our application our old E111 cards had expired so they wouldn't issue them. I believe mow and after Brexit as we are both not at the UK retirement age we are not allowed to to get the temporary SIP cards. It's very confusing.

Thank you for your reply.

Kind regards Bob

So did you have your 1st & 2nd jabs here in Spain without a SIP card or number?  I’m saying number become some posters on here never actually had a card, just issued a number. How were you called for appointments both your 1st & 2nd jabs. If you’ve had your 2 jabs here, there really shouldn’t be any problem about receiving the 3rd.

Without a SIP  how did you get your  EU Digital Covid Certificate - the one with the three flags at the top.

You do not need to have an EHIC ( E111’s were phased out more than 15 years ago) to obtain a temporary SIP for vaccination purposes. As Kim said earlier in the thread all you need is your passport,TIE, padron and proof of private health care. You also need a Spanish mobile number. But if you’ve had jabs here then you must be on the system.

You’re right in what you are saying that to renew your EHIC/GHIC  you need a U.K. address, unless you are a Spanish resident claiming healthcare via the S1 form

Are you aware that the EUDCC is only valid for 270 days if you’ve not had your 3rd jab and that  you will not be able to travel or enter bars/restaurants without a valid certificate.

Hi Lynn. Again thank you for coming back to me. Sorry I didn't make myself clear in saying that we had our 1st and 2nd jabs in the UK. As I mentioned earlier when we went down to our local Salud in Torrevieja with someone to help us apply for the temporary SIP the reason it was refused we were told it was because of our expired E111 cards. We have now received our new GHIC cards. So I am reading it that if we take our Padron, passports, proof of our private medical insurance and TIE  we shouldn't have a issue. We have residencia so I take it we will have to take our NIE cards. Thanks again for all your help.

Kind regards Bob

Hi Bob,

Your NIE is your tax reference number - it's your TIE or residency certificate that you need to take, along with the other documents I listed.  You must also take the NHS certificate detailing the vaccinations you've already received.  Another member, who had their first 2 jabs in France, had to obtain the batch numbers from their French doctor before they could get their booster in Spain, but best to go to your health centre and see what they say.

Don't worry about not having a SIP card - I don't have one either as, like you, I am an early retiree with private health cover, and it hasn't stopped me getting 3 jabs.

Kind regards,

Kim
