Love a positive post, so thanks. But realistically it’s not up to Spain opening their borders to UK visitors based on the UK success to date. It’s up to the UK government feeling comfortable that all the success which has been achieved will not be compromised in any way due to foreign tr...

...avel to and from other countries, unfortunately that at present includes Spain. Personally, I think Spain as opposed to France and many other European countries is probably higher up on the safe list, if not near the top. But when the time comes for publication of the UK travel traffic light system, Spain is still not going to be green. Just re read my post and it would appear to be negative, sorry. But it’s just realistic, and I wish it wasn’t.

Didn't take long! 😑😕

My positivity is not just about travel, its about folk getting vaccinated, thus enabling families and friends in meeting up and sharing precious moments once again.

So, whilst no one has lost sight of realism of the situation or are ever far away from the relentless pessimism of it all... this thread remains wholly positive in its outlook.

Things are going to get better, the world is going to open up again... Nothing is more certain.

Thanks Wilbur, another lovely, feel-good post from you!

We had lunch on the terrace of our favourite local restaurant - only 21C with us, Steve, but forecast 28C tomorrow  :o)  If it cheers you up again, while I don't know where Hew's getting his info, an article in today's Telegraph lists the "potential" Green countries as The Caribbean, Iceland, Israel, Portugal and Spain - with Spain's case rate over the last 7 days of 97 in 100,000 - hope that helps!  :o)

My point was that no matter if the UK residents are permitted to leave the UK for tourism if Spain still states only Spanish nationals or residents we will not be able to travel there.

Mary's right - what we need (what some really, really need!) is for the UK and Spain to align their exit and entry policies ;o)

Stay positive. Borders will open in time. I'm certain there will be a Summer tourist season.

That would be nice but think we are unlikely to get complete alignment until such time as we have similar disease incidence with no one country having a problem with variants and both countries vaccination penetration not too far apart.

I wasn’t replying to, nor did I quote your post. Which was honestly uplifting and appreciated, so again thanks. It was in response to Mary’s which said that she was hoping and praying that Boris had positive news and that Spain would open its borders after taking into consideration the success rate in the UK. What I said with regard to that comment was absolutely true, it’s not up to when Spain open the borders, it’s up to when the UK will permit reasonably un restricted travel to and from Spain, based on facts. Not when Spain will open the borders. So, I was only referring to travel, nothing else. Of course we will get there in the end and the sooner the better. But at present travel restrictions appear to be helping us get there.

Not a problem, was just ribbing... No offence taken at all Hew.

Hi Mary,

I think that Spanish borders will be open to those from the UK sooner than Boris will allow those from the the UK to travel to Spain. The reasons are up to your own personal interoperation. Either travel restrictions are beneficial to the UK as far as reducing the possibility of importing covid variants into the UK, or the fact that virtually every holiday establishment in the UK is fully booked for the foreseeable future, at up to treble the price, hence beneficial to the UK economy, or a combination of both. Personally wish the borders were open right now, but maybe I’m not being sensible or realistic there. God bless.
