Renting

Obviously it depends how long you need to be renting. Weekly rents are 400+ euros and 1000+ monthly I would say unless you are renting long term which would be cheaper. Summer prices are much higher. Villamartin is a good place to rent as there is a lot going on there and there is easy access to most things.

Sorry just seen you wrote for a year. Monthly rental would be around 500 euros I would say in S Costa Blanca. and probably higher in the north.

Yes, the north is greener, cooler and wetter.
If you are coming for a year you will have to apply for Residency within the first 90 days of being in Spain and  to prove you have sufficient finances and health cover.
Depending on your dates you may also become tax resident in Spain. If you arrive in Spain in the first half of the calendar year you will be tax resident in Spain for the whole of that year and will have to submit a tax return here.
