We were due to fly out on Saturday 3rd for a couple of weeks but a friend in travel told us that because our journey was not essential our insurance company would not pay up in the event of anything happening.  We would be staying in our own apartment and just going to the beach and a couple of pubs in the Los Locos area, maybe a venture into town along the seafront.  We're too old for clubbing!!!!!

What is the situation in Torrevieja?

Regards

Stephen

Hi Stephen,

You can check the status of Covid-19 cases in individual towns on this website - scroll down the list of "municipos" on the left hand side until you get to Torrevieja:

https://icvgva.maps.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboard/index.html#/3a3115ad642a4516b0928f21e395b32d

There is currently no suggestion of a national lockdown in Spain, although there are individual areas, such as the south of Madrid, that have been put back into lockdown.

Kind regards

Kim

EHIC cards are valid until end December and will cover treatment in Spain for COVID.  (The govt. website points out that EHIC doesn’t cover repatriation costs should it be needed.  )

I phoned my travel insurance providers just before my trip out here end September.   They confirmed I was covered for Spain, including for COVID, but not for flight cancellations.
So perhaps worth checking directly with your own insurers what they are currently covering.  It seems to be changing all the time .

I believe Battleforce insurers also cover travel to FCO essential travel only countries.

Hi youbedizzy,

As with many things in Spain, the circumstances of an individual, or even the health provider, can be open to interpretation.  A few weeks ago, a forum member reported that she had been refused use of the EHIC (E111) at her GP, but was told it could still be used at the hospital.

I hope your wife is recovering well.

Best wishes,

Kim

Oh dear I'm really sorry to hear about your wife and the problem you experienced with the EHIC.

Out of curiosity, what did you do for medical help in this instance? I ask because I think there maybe further issues the closer we get to 31/12.

It might help other members if you post on here.

they refused to send an ambulance and directed me to the private hospital in torrevieja.  we went there and were seen to, once they had the details of my credit card.

I was in Torrevieja in September for 2 weeks and felt very safe. I too stayed in my apartment and went out for coffee, meals, markets, couple of coach trips. It is quiet but there are people around. Everyone wears masks.  Flights were OK. I came home to 14 days quarantine but as I am retired this is OK for me. The weather was glorious.  Lots of online forms to complete coming into Spain and going home to UK.  I had insurance but did not make a claim so not an issue

Thats just not a nice situation to be in. Not that it matters at a time of need but will you be able to get reimbursement?
