We just arrived yesterday and are wondering about the use of face masks. Is it necessary to use them in the car and when you walk outdoors?

Hello

Currently facemasks are still mandatory ...... should be worn everywhere unless eating & drinking &  until the rule officially changes.

Cheers

At present you do need to wear a mask, if in a bar or restaurant you will need to keep your mask on until either your food or drinks are served or when moving away from your table to use the facilities or getting up to leave the premises.

You do not need to wear a mask in a car if you are from the same household, only if you are travelling with people who are not from your household.

There have been reports that the wearing of masks may be scrapped in the not too distant future

🤞

Cant come soon enough (the scrapping I mean).  Ludicrous instances: a single person driving a car; sitting on an uncrowded beach; walking down an empty street etc etc.  In Torrevieja walking along the sea front within yards of people sitting at cafes and others on the fixed benches.  They will be sitting there eating or drinking, no masks, and yet people walking a yard or two away are compelled to wear a mask.  What on earth is that all about?

Why do people feel they have to wear masks ALL the time.  I have seen people leaving their homes masked up just to take a bag of rubbish to the bin, twenty yards away, on an empty street.  I believe that common sense is the best way to live, in all circumstances.  Wearing a flimsy bit of cloth over your face serves no purpose whatsoever in an isolated situation.  I can only think people have become so paranoid over time that it's like a crutch to keep you going, no matter what.

Oh, and I know what kind of responses I will get to this from some people - "It's the law, deal with it!".  Since when do all laws make any sense?

Like it or not, at the time being it is compulsory to wear them outdoors and you can be fined for not wearing them.

Anyway, I don't understand quite well your last question / statement "Since when do all laws make any sense?". If a law does not make any sense to you, you don't need to abide it?

Still, fingers crossed they may scrap the masks soon

When we were first told to wear masks it was to protect other people in case we were breathing out the novel coronavirus.

As the pandemic has progressed we now know that the virus is airborne, that means it could be in the air almost anywhere.  We also know that masks of a certain standard give a large degree of protection to the wearer against inhaling said virus in sufficient quantity to be harmful.  I, for one, won’t be rushing to stop wearing mine, with its polypropylene filter.

Some of your statements are absolutely ridiculous!!!

Here in the Alicante region we've had the lowest rates of covid because we've all stuck rigidly to the rules about masks and social distancing. The virus is airborne and could be blowing in the wind for hundreds of yards, it doesn't just become safe to breathe in hence the mask rules. I'll stay away from Torrevieja if that is the general attitude of the towns population!!!

Hello

Steve thats  not the case at all, yesterday 2 friends & I said we are in no hurry to discard our masks now that more people seem to be arriving daily to this area, and many more people here  have no complaints about wearing them

I think you'll also  find that MichaelLaSiesta is not even in Torrevieja as we speak as, I remember  he went home a couple of months ago so as not to overstay, as he did not have residencia & had been here for many months

Cheers

Ah, well that explains a lot about his attitude towards having to wear masks!! Its typical of many UK citizens to complain and refuse to abide by good advice about covid transmission. The UK is in dire straits with the covid infection rates especially with the Indian variant.

Completely agree with you mate

The police was called yesterday to deal with this old man not wearing a mask inside the shopping mall

He was refused service yes I probably agree but calling the police for such a ludicrous thing

People got time

Have we now hit the target of becoming an Automated nation

Not sure if we qualify as humans anymore

How sad
