I am looking for info regarding buying a vehicle registered in the Canary islands, Tenerife eg.

I am a permanent resident in mainland Spain and wondering what are the complications in buying and registering a vehicle registered in the Canary islands apart from ferry costs etc.?. Also what impact does this have on vehicles that are over 30 years old. Does the fact of being an island increase the effects of corrosion?  I was on Masirah and Japanese cars rusted through in 3 years. My 3 yr old Landcruiser had see through doors and 12000Kms.

The Canaries are duty free so once it hits mainland Spain you would have to pay import duty. Best to ask one of the companies that do this or a Gestor. There is a company called TIV Control opposite the ITV centre in Torrevieja who do it.

As regards rust I would say anything that is near the Atlantic ocean unless it is washed frequently and well looked after  will suffer salt damage.
