Hi All,

About 8 months ago I bought a second hand car from a dealer in Alicante, with what was supposed to be a 12month guarantee.

I have driven the car just under 5k Kms and it has developed a problem with the A/C. I took the car to him about 10 days ago and asked him for an appointment so they could check it out. He has not been responding to my emails but has answered the phone. I called him today and while my Spanish is pretty poor I think I understood that the insurance was not valid because of the Kms the car has done.

Does anyone know more on this score or been seen off in a similar way?

I got a 12 months guarantee with my 2nd hand car last year. The warranty was for only major parts only, like the U.K, most garages will try and squirm out of carrying any repairs under warranty.

Regards

 Jim

If you received guarantee paperwork at the time of the deal, get a Spanish speaker to read it through. If it doesn't contain relevant exclusions, go back to the garage and tell them you want to fill out the 'libro de reclamaciones' which is the method of filling out an official complaint about a product or service. The local authority consumer department will then follow up. Obviously you need to fill it out in Spanish. Ask Spanish speaking friends for help or use Google translate. Just the threat sometimes causes businesses to re-think.
