We arrive on 28th April and want to hire a car to visit areas in the hope of moving over permanently. Can anyone recommend a company or advise who to avoid? Thanks xxx

I've used Goldcar twice no problems so far. I always do a check on www. doyouspain.com, skyscanner.ie/com Ryanair and Carrentals.com. I always select Full to Full as fuel policy as this is an obvious way of gouging the punter, and I nearly always select one that offers free cancellationas it means I can continue to check for better offers and cancel the original, and I awlays check what the excess policy is. Sometines you have to go digging for it, which is not good. As a general rule, I also have annual insurance for car excess from https://www.carhireexcess.com/ie, but there are a number of providers for this kind of cover. Happily I have never had to use it.

Just to add my 2 penneth worth, I certainly agree with what others have said. It can be a mind field as all companies appear to have complaints against them and Gold Car appear to have more than most so I have never used them. I have booked in the last few trips with either Inter Rent or Centauro.
It is best to have your own insurance cover as the hire companies are expensive and they will try and push theirs at the desk, whilst at the desk make sure of the details when you sign the contract. Always check the vehicle thoroughly and bring to attention any marks not listed on the contract, if you can take photos, and make sure you inspect it in daylight when possible.
I hate blowing Ryanair's trumpet but the last few trips were cheaper booked through them then the comparisons sites.
Just a word of caution, If you haven't driven in Spain before just check on line how the Spanish use roundabouts, it will save having an accident.
Good luck.

Thanks Canon Fodder we've booked with a company called viper or viber? Good reviews so fingers crossed all good
I've been renting 3 to 4 times a year for the last 10 years and found them all much of a muchness, I've always had good service from Goldcar so maybe I've just been lucky.
