As an ex Torry resident,having paid car insurance for my vehicle, informed by insurer,that breakdown cover was compulsory & included, in premium.Why do car hire providers try to charge extra for "breakdown" cover?

I just say to them, “so if the car breaks down you don’t want it back? If you keep my deposit I won’t tell you where it is.” It worked for me a few years ago when I lost the car keys and they said they would take my deposit, I didn’t tell them where the car was until I got the deposit back.
