Hello, I am in the process of possibly buying a car in Torrevieja and I was wondering if anyone knows a car repair shop there that would inspect a vehicle before purchasing it. Maybe you haven't taken your car there but you know it is a reputable shop. Better if you know it first hand. Buying a used car in Spain is a bit scary. I just drove to Murcia to find out that the vehicle had a new odometer and the reading was 200000 kilometers less than the actual Km. I found out doing a CARFAX report but I wasted a day. It could have been worse. Thank you to all who respond.

Your case is most common practice, I'd never buy a car in Spain whether new or used. Have a look at www.autoscout24.com and you will find out why. I bought some 12 years ago a brand new VW Passat (retail in Spain 31.000,-) for 19.000,- + less than 5.000,- for pick up in Berlin and all expenses for getting Spanish plates on. Now with 260.000 kms on the odometer it still runs fine and never needed a mechanic.

Hi, I would recommend FW Eurocars, they are behind Alicante airport. Have been in business for over 20 years, satisfying the needs of people who need to make the transaction in English, and of course Spanish. A lot of people I know have bought from them and been very satisfied.

Thank you for your post. I'll consider FW Eurocars. Since you are in Santa Pola, do you know any mechanic who you would recommend? Thank you

You don't need a mechanic yet. It's not the custom to take a mechanic with you when you buy a car here.

Also you will probably think that the prices are high compared to the UK, but the cars last a longer in this climate than in the UK.

Juan are you Spanish or Brit?  Do you speak Spanish?

Hi Janice, on Monday I am going to check out a car in Torrevieja. I am looking for a shop that will check the car to give me a thumbs up or not.
I am from Spain but I have lived most of my life in the US. There, for a used car, besides getting a CARFAX report you can choose to take the car to your trusty mechanic, just to avoid common pitfalls unless you are buying a used car from a dealer with a warranty. Since I don't know anyone here (I just moved 3 weeks ago) I was hoping to get the name of a shop in Torrevieja to innspect the car. The owner of the vehicle is OK with having it inspected. Thank you for replying

You could try Facebook marketplace near you. Bought one recently with a relative. Cars can be cheap that way but if you don’t know about cars & also the paperwork needed then taking a good mechanic with you would be essential.
