Hi,

I have recently bought a used car (Model year 2003) it came with tinted rear windows and was bought in Barcelona from a private owner.

The car came with an ITV, but it is now time for me to get this years ITV.

The previous owner assures me that he never needed to produce a certificate at ITV time for the tinted glass and that this was never questioned at ITV time.  The tint film has the following markings www.solarzone.es (this is just the manufacturer not the installer)

Will I have any trouble with this at ITV time? If so is there an way to get it certified in Torrevieja region?

Hope someone can advise,

Tommy :-)

I can't help with anywhere in Torrevieja to help.

My car has rear tinted windows and I also have the certificate for them. I've never been asked for the certificate.

If I were you, I'd get the test done a month before it's due to expire.

If it passes, all well and good and you retain the original expiry date.

If it fails, for the tints or anything else, you then have a month to get it all sorted.

Thank you Reylat this is very helpful information.

What I did not realise is that if I fail the ITV I can still use the car till the official expiry date - have I got that correct?

Providing it is nothing serious.

If it fails it will be noted on the paperwork. Grave means it is serious and needs immediate action (depending on what it is you may not be permitted to drive the vehicle away). Leve is minor, that might require you to return after the defect has been rectified.

Yes, unless a fail is on a serious matter, 'grave' on the ITV paperwork, in which case you should only drive it to get it fixed.

If you go a month ahead of time then you get a 13 month ITV, in other words the expiry date of the new ITV will be that of the remains the previous one so there is no disadvantage at all in going early.

Rear windows can be as tinted as you like, they are nothing to do with the ITV.

"Rear windows can be as tinted as you like, they are nothing to do with the ITV"

This is really good news, means I don't have to worry about the tint at all.

Thank you :-)

Actually this article in one that I read that made me ask the original question. It suggests you do need a certificate for tinted windows.

But goes on to say it is no longer considered a 'major reform' and that an 'extraordinary inspection is no longer required'

I have to say I am not clear on the meaning of this?

It means that you are OK.

I would still take the test a month early, but don't worry about the tints.

So, as much as I would have liked to take the car a month early there was a delay in getting the permisio de circulacion :-(

I actually have just been told this afternoon by the Gestor that he has it and is going to courier it to me from Barcelona (where I bought the car) to Torrevieja where it will get it's ITV.

So here's the thing, I am in the UK at the moment and can't get to Torrevieja easily before the 19th (when the ITV is due) - will I be fined for having no ITV for a few weeks?
