Happy New year to you all. I have a right hand drive car with Spanish plates. I have sold it to a friend. Please could anyone advise me on how I exchange the car details, itv and car tax in my friends name?

Regards Caron

Hi,

Firstly you need to make sure that if your friend is driving this car and you still own it that they have an " Authorización para conducir" signed by you so if they are stopped by the police they can prove that they have your permission to drive the car. You can download a copy of this fron the N332 website.

Is it a Spanish or British registered car?

If its Spanish when I sold my car I used Gestoría Samper in Torrevieja.  They do all the necessary paperwork and specialise in this. I've found them to be efficient and reasonably priced.

DOH!

Sorry, I didn't read your post correctly,  I can now see it's Spanish registered :-)

From the list given on Anglo Info I doubt just an NIE will suffice!

In the MIDGT app you can nominate a main driver which will cover them until they get the registration changed over, because you can stipulate the to and from dates it's also a better safeguard against being held responsible for any traffic offences which may be committed.

The N332 form mentioned is really more for a temporary loan, say a visiting friend or relation.

Hi,

We brought our car from England and sorted out Spanish plates so it is now registered here.

Hi Casco,

Unfortunately, it's not as straightforward as sending off the V5 to the DVLA in the UK.

When you agreed the sale price with your friend, did you calculate and include the transfer tax?  If not, best to visit a Gestor who can do the calculation for you and will prepare the sales contract - we used David of Orke Servicios in Los Montesinos, tel: 670 814 581.  It's quickest if you and the purchaser can go together.

Alternatively, if either of you speak Spanish, you could cut out the Gestor's fee and go direct to the Guardia Civil, but you'll still need to pay the transfer tax.  I've heard some people say the seller is responsible for the transfer, others say the buyer - the important thing is that the transfer is done correctly, to ensure that you are no longer the registered owner of the vehicle.

Kind regards,

Kim
