My neighbours have received an official document from the Town Hall in TORREVIEJA asking them to present themselves within ten days of the date of the notice to confirm their Residency. They have lived here over ten years and have never had to do this before. I have searched online but cannot find any further information on this. I am wondering if this has anything to do with Brexit? Has anyone else received a notice? Incidentally, you have to sign for the letter.

If they've lived here ten years, they should have had a similar letter five years ago.

There's nothing untoward about it, it's just to keep the register of electors topical, and they will issue a new padron.

The vast majority of people who move out of a municipal area do not do a baja from the padron, so the number of residents is artificially higher than it should be. Town halls probably don't like doing the updates, as their income from central government depends on the number of people on the register of electors.
