The EHIC is valid until the expiry date and then you can apply for a GHIC.

If you are not residents your SIP card will be a temporary one issued to cover a previous course of treatment. Only residents get a permanent SIP providing they qualify.

Agreed, your EHIC is perfectly valid however not all health centre staff are properly acquainted with the rules.

Rather than argue the toss with them I'd simply try at a different Salud making no mention of the SIP, you are tourists so in essence are free to attend any you choose.

Others here should be able to advise which are up to speed and understand how the EHIC works.

Assuming you are a UK National, you need to remember an EHIC or GHIC is not a replacement for travel insurance and should only be used in an emergency. Therefore you should have both before you travel.to the EEA.
