Hi Guys, some advice needed. Having spent a few months in Torrevieja pre brexit I am now wondering if it is possible to move to the area long term. I am still of working age and would need an income of some sort. Just interested to know if Brexit has put paid to this happening now ?

Yes, Brexit has made it virtually impossible for UK passport holders to get work in Spain!!

To be able to move to Spain permanently and work you will need to apply for and secure a position first while you are still living in the UK. Your prospective employer will then need to apply for a work visa on your behalf from the Spanish consulate in the UK.

Note: All work positions available must be offered to an EU citizen first. That means that there is virtually no chance of an employment offer unless they cannot find anyone within the whole of the EU to fill the position.

You could look at the Self employment visa but that is expensive.

You can't just move to Spain permanently without some sort of visa.

If you are a UK citizen then you require a visa of some sort to come to Spain and apply for residency.

All visas are applied for in UK.

Non Lucrative Visa. To enable you to retire in Spain and unable to work. You require an income of €28,800 for the first applicant per year plus private health insurance unless you are over pensionable age (and a couple of other points) and obtain an S1.

Working Visa. You must have a definite job offer from a Spanish company and a fixed contract where you will pay social security and get free health care. Employer must show no EU citizen applied for or could carry out the work.

Entrepreneur Visa. Where you will be setting up your own business and you must submit a business plan to show you will be receiving the minimum income of 28,800 per annum.

Digital Nomad. Where you will be working online for a non Spanish company. Must have been doing this for at least a year and show you will received the minimum income and have a contract. Lower rate of income tax is paid.

Golden Visa. Investing 1 million euro plus in Spanish companies or purchasing property over the sum of 500,000 euro exc tax.

There are whole swathes of visas you can apply for but you must show you will get the minimum income of 28,800 euro, plus 7,200 euro for each member of your family, and medical insurance either private or state provided.

Each visa is initially valid for 1 year and you have to show the minimum income for the following two years, then at the 3 year point for the next 2 years. Once the 5 year point is reached you become permanent and treated like a Spanish citizen in most ways

Of course, if you are not from UK you can ignore all that as it doesn't apply to EU citizens (inc Irish).
