Hi, firstly may I say how friendly & helpful this forum is;  I  have been a Thaivisa member for fifteen years and there are many grumpy old men contributing on a regular basis.  Here I have found everything is sunshine and flowers.  I intended to make my move from Thailand to Spain early in the new year but Covid complications have set back this date.  Hopefully I can visit in Spring.

I have a Thai girlfriend and would hope there are Thai restaurants locally so would be open to suggestions.  I am a very keen table tennis player and would like some venues recommended.

I have been asked to introduce myself.  I am an ex-teacher and professional writer; a free blog can be found here; https://mwbell2000.wixsite.com/mikebell

Hi Mike and welcome to the forum!

My favourite Thai restaurant is "Ayutthaya Thai" in Guardamar del Segura:

https://www.ayutthayath.com

Unlike several so-called Thai restaurants in this area, that are actually glorified Chinese, "Ayutthaya Thai" is owned by a British guy and his Thai wife, and their chef is Thai.  They grow many of the traditional ingredients themselves - Thai Basil, Lemongrass, Chillis, etc.  The food is wonderful.

Kind regards,

Kim

Thank you for that.  My GF is a keen gardener & grows lots of stuff in our garden here. If/when we come we'd look for a long term rental with a garden. This restaurant is on my list.

Why on earth would you want to move from Thailand (I guess it depends WHERE) to Spain? Genuine question from someone seriously making the opposite move.

Thanks

Where to start?  The country is ruled by a Military Junta.  The police are highly corrupt and see foreigners as targets. Covid is spreading like wildfire and there are insufficient vaccines because politicians haggled over commissions before buying.  The whole country is a gigantic Boys Club run by & for the rich and connected.  A prominent Cabinet Minister is a convicted drug smuggler.  You cannot legally buy a house.  Public criticism of ANYTHING is harshly dealt with by Draconian libel laws.  (A foreigner posted a negative report on Tripadvisor and was arrested and jailed!)  The climate is too hot and humid every month of the year.

I wrote a funny book about all of the above; 'https://mwbell2000.wixsite.com/mikebell' -  but it isn't funny anymore.

Hi Mike

We love Thai food and one of our favourite restaurants anywhere is called Gong.  They are based at Playa Flamenca, on Flamenca Beach Commercial Centre.

Lorraine and her team offer fabulous food coupled with a great friendly atmosphere. They do a great twist on Thai food with some interesting dishes, along with many favourites.

Would highly recommend.

Good luck and hope you make it to Spain

Sharon and Mike

Thank you both for this.  It's an unusual name for a Thai restaurant.  I wonder if it's a corruption of Kung which is Thai for prawn?  It happens to be my GF's favourite food so if we ever get there, it'll be on my list.
