Team hi,

For my retirement I’m thinking long and hard for renting with the long term of buying, would love to meet people who have had my same thoughts and have now settled in spain

Oh dear, why don’t you like it? I’m interested as someone who plans to move out from the uk soon.  Interested in hearing the lows as well as the highs.

Team hi,

I retired 2 years early to live in my favourite city of Benidorm. I came with the intention of always renting long-term.  I've been here 6 years and only moved apartments once in that time. The first apartment was a 1 year stop gap for me to settle down and get all the legalities of living in Spain done and dusted. Within that first year I found the ideal area and a beautiful 2 bedroom apartment. Why would I want to buy an apartment when it's so easy and cheap to rent? I've virtually no responsibilities for high cost maintenance,  I decorate, pay for minor repairs and generally maintain the apartment to a good standard. The landlord pays for water, community charges, IBI, etc .All I pay is rent, electricity ànd for rubbish collection ( annually) The landlord pays for any worn out white goods like washing machine,  microwave, cooker and water heater. The rental laws in Spain are on the side of the tenant  except if you stop paying your agreed rental etc. Villas and apartments are notoriously difficult indeed to sell ( if you decide you don't like the area after all. Things soon change if you get bad neighbours) in Spain especially just now with the recession looming!!

I absolutely love it here and would never return to UK.  The weather, healthcare and friends I've made have made it a pleasure to live here.

I've now got my "Permanent Residency" card which has made me more secure especially with Brexit finalised at the end of this year.

Don't hesitate.

I urge you to look at Jim's Guides that can be found in the drop down menu on the left side of this page or the tab at the top of the page. The guides have all the information you need to know about living here legally in Spain.
