Rather a vague question, and difficult to answer without knowing your restrictions etc.
For a quick return obviously flying back is best option. Flights take around 3 hrs back to the UK, you will also need to add travel time to airport, and going through check-in, boarding gates etc, most people who have bags/cases to check in are advised to get to the airport at least 2 hours before flight departure time. Once you have gone through checkin and security gates, you will then be able to sit down and wait for boarding, so not too tiresome really. The stress and anxiety comes when flights are delayed (longer waiting time in airport), queues are longer and slower to get through check-in and departure gates. You will also need to factor in the time queuing through passport control when arriving back in the UK, which differs across all airports.
Regarding travelling by road, I’ve never took this option but am aware that it can take a few days depending on number of stops/overnight stays, and where you are either sailing back from, or getting the Chunnel.
There are many members on this forum who do this regularly, and will be able to advise.
You really need to expand on your preferences and/or concerns… are you afraid of flying, do you suffer from car or sea sickness, are you mobile enough to walk long distances and wait in standing queues… so many variables that will have an impact on whichever option you take?
