Hi

Help please….. Mossies a real problem for me.    I have sprays and uv lamps but they are ineffective.

Can anyone suggest/recommend the best deterrent please….. Also any effective treatment for the bites to stop the itching and swelling?

I’m currently nursing 30 little beauties atm 😳😔

Any repellent with DEET usually "helps" for most people.

As for bites we find ANTHISAN cream to be by far the best and most effective.

There is much on this forum ( if you search above, top R/H) on the home page. For application for a bite, apply ammonia directly to the "sting". Many Spanish carry amoniaco in a small spray bottle. V

Nothing works effectively......

What's "brilliant" and works for one doesn't work for another.

When we first came to live here in Spain my wife was bitten daily, she tried everything that was on the market.  After a couple of years all the mossy bites suddenly stopped for no apparent reason 🤷‍♂️ Not been bitten now for several years.

Hola.

We use the Citronella spray from Mercadona.

No bites, even when we are gardening.

A good strong fan also keeps them away whilst you are at home.

Antihistamine tablets (one a day) work for me.

I have hayfever and have to take them when pollen is high but also found that they reduce the itching & swelling from mossie bites.

I also take ‘hayfever ‘ antihistamine tablets. One a day from 1st March to 30 No ember every year. I get bitten but there is no swelling or itching.

For bites anthisan is best, or for emergency usage baking soda paste

For keeping them at bay, Mercadona sells this,  https://tienda.mercadona.es/product/35516/agua-colonia-bebe-nenuco-botella

which smells good and can be decanted into a small spray bottle and brought in a bag or pocket to refresh.

Myself, I buy a bottle of Tea Tree Oil and infuse ? drops into my shampoo and shower gel. This keeps them away and is also good for the skin.

Around the house use strong smelling potted herbs or get the same herbs in oil form and mix into sprayer bottles.

All insects and creepy crawlies dislike the strong smells and it is non toxic to pets etc

Cinnamon powder sprinkled around doors and windows works too

You'll get it from all pharmacies in Spain.

Do you or your neighbors have any standing water around; ie. saucers under your plants, mop buckets in the garden or the house, unprotected rain water recuperation systems, etc...

Get rid of any standing water... If you have drains on your terrace, flush with water regularly or a spot of bleach regularly..

Plants do not work as they need to be immediately next to you or numbered in the hundreds to provide any protection.

The best I have found are fans and plug in liquid insecticides.... Store brands are fine..
