The little blighters are around all day with a peak now around 19.30, Night time I don't know with the curfew etc.

As for anti insects we had roller blinds, now we have sliding windows 1.5 x2.0m with electric locking blinds, we fitted these crappy magnetic things, cost peanuts but after less than a year they are finished. We looked at concertina types but have now decided to use a roller blind type about 150 ...

...euros. On the main door we have another outer steel grill type door with a mozzie net and in the winter we fit a 0.5mm plastic sheet so we can have the main door open and have light too.

You can fit a steel grill type door on the outside of your main door just as your windows probably have, This is what most people have here for security. Because it is hinged on one side you can fit a permanent frame to it on the inside fitted with a mozzie net.

Many years ago I thought about a mozzie radar based on adaptive array ultrasonics, , The info from the radar was fed to a computer guidance system using a 10W laser to zap them in mid flight. I believe that last year someone had actually built such a working system. Probably cost a fortune but must have been great to watch!!!

I’ve just re read this. So, I’ve got the solarium door and the double doors sorted in my head; I can understand your solution as I’ve seen these concertina type. That will probably be what I end up having fitted to my French doors

Back to your slider. Have you had a concertina type fitted here? When open, does that simply concertina across to the edge of the opened sliders? 🤪🥂...

...

Morning - on the sliding terrace doors we only ever enter/ exit from the left of the two parts. The sliding concertina netting is fixed to the right hand wall side and would slide back towards that wall.

In daily use we would only ever slide it back halfway mirroring our use of the doors themselves, if that makes sense.

Thanks Lancelot. I’m guessing I’m perhaps a bit out of his area. I’m picking everyone’s brains for the best solution

The windows had blinds when we bought, but I’m guessing they didn’t do the doors because they’re a bit “non standard”. We’re going to have to tackle them this year when we’re back (👍👍) as the mozzies drive us nuts, as they do everyone....

...

Is it just me, or do the little buggers seem to be on the go earlier in the evening? I seem to remember they were considered “dawn and dusk” but our lot seem to be up and at it as early as sundowner time, if not earlier. 🤪🥂

If you can take an antihistamine in the morning, once daily are best, they will still have a go at you but you don't  get the itch or the large blister. Works for us.

Fortunately we've had none yet and we won't be spending 1600 on mesh because we spend most of our time outdoors anyway, some of the locals tell us that a few citronella plants dotted around the terrace will help.

Our next door neighbour has both with lots of the ones Fully grown touted in the market as anti mozzie. Because they are away (Covid) they asked me to pick the Lemons. So I went over the wall, There were Mozzies everywhere especially in the Anti Mozzie plants!!! The spirals work quite well and any sort of wood smoke seems to keep them away too. A quick spray with Autan or similar appears to last most of the day. Forget the bracelets, tests showed their effectiveness to be a few cms. Feeling masochistic? Go out in a heavily infested area wearing a string vest!!!
