Has he got power of attorney?
If not there is no way you'll be getting into Spain to complete on a purchase or for any other reason, residents only until further notice.

Will you have two extra months of utilities, and taxes for a start to pay?
Perhaps more if you cannot get to Spain?
What benefit will it be for you to complete early?
Are you confident that everything is up to your expectations?
It certainly must be a worry and disappointment for you at this time.
Hope everything turns out well and you get to enjoy your new home soon.
Kind regards
Maria

Hi,
Congratulations on finding your new home.
We bought our house in 2017. The agreed planned completion was at the end of April in line with when we could get back to Spain. However our abogada who had our power of attorney completed on the 3rd of April while we were on holiday in the US.
All garden and pool maintenance ceased immediately and the house was no longer insured. We were fortunate to be able to remotely put insurance in place and our estate agent arranged pool maintenance but it was a stressful couple of days. We arrived in Spain to collect our keys early May and discovered a completely overgrown garden.
Nothing really bad happened but just take into account any possible maintenance and insurance issues that may arise. Also please take into consideration the current travel restrictions.
Regards
Vivienne

As Vivienne says insurance is something else to consider.
Last week I was in touch with our insurance company to arrange the renewal online
They seem to have gone away...
Hopefully just for few days on account of the current situation.
All expenses that will add up.
Please don’t get rushed into anything.
If it is for a permanent move you won't be able to get here, if it is a holiday home I can't see any point in moving it forward, you will just have the worry of an empty property and all the expense that entails. I'd keep my money for as long as possible and make sure the property is re-inspected before completion, we're having a lot of rain here at the moment and leaks are common.

thanks everyone. very useful advice.
We were due to complete early April, like you all paperwork etc is completed and every party has signed over POA. It has now been delayed until the lockdown is over and all parties/legal entities involved are back up and running properly. Our solicitor explained that it would probably early June, so we are just waiting it out.
Good luck.
