We just got the keys to our new apartment and have have fun trying to sort out the problems previous owners left.

Latest one is the Electric cutting out when we try to put the oven on.

I have tried turning all electors off lights etc but it still trips when Input oven on.

Anyone else had this. Just wondering if a new oven is needed or an electric fault.

Thanks.

You need to check the POTENCIA setting on your electric bill. A kettle uses 1.5kw, small ring on cooker up to 1kw, big ring 1.5kw, water heater up to 2kw, lights up to 0.15kw each and so on(TV, alarm, washing machine etc). So any combination of above and others that add up to more than your potencia will cause a tripswitch to trip. There are threads on here about upping your potencia, how to do it, and what it costs.

You have probably got a 3.3Kw power supply which only allows a maximum current of 15A.. For a modern house, you need at least a 5.75Kw rating to give you a 25A current.

You will need a boletin from a qualified electrician to show your wiring can take the extra current and the electricity supplier will up your rating. They charge per Kw contracted for so your bills will rise but it's worth it to stop the nausea of things tripping all the time.

We had same problem, when we returned to our flat after a long time. Before you start changing electricity or oven, call a good electrician to check your oven. Due to high humidity some part in it get dump and cause electric fuse to trip. It is a fast and a cheap fix.I can recommend Amps Electrical. I hope, your electricity problems will not be the more serious ones.

We have a 3 bed villa and have only 3.3 KW. Over the last 15 years it has only tripped once. I think you may find that the oven has got damp and will just need drying out. Leave the oven door open for a while and hopefully it will dry out.

Could be the heating element in the oven is faulty, often you can get a replacement just pull the old one out and put in the new, a little bit like changing a light bulb subject to which type of oven you have.

If the electric only trips when you put the oven on then it's very likely that the oven is faulty. One of the heating elements will probably have short circuited, check the grill first.
