Hi.

Has anybody the experience of having glass curtains installed on an open balcony ?

I am interested in the pros and cons for example, the benefits and any shortcomings .

Also any recommendations for a supplier to supply and fix.

I would appreciate your experiences,  I am in the Playa Flamenca area.

Thanks in advance

Not personally had these installed, couple of things we were told about any permanent increase in the square meterage of your property will result in a higher SUMA rate. You will need permission from the Townhall and/or your committee if you live on an urbanization. However if others have had this done permission should be easily obtained.

One thing to think about depending on the orientation of your property the area could get unbearably hot in the summer months, but in the winter it will be a lovely space to sit and relax.

Best thing is to ask any neighbours who have had this done and get their views on the pros and cons.

Most people I know say they’re left open for most of the year and therefore an expensive luxury, as already said I guess that really depends on your property location / orientation.

We enclosed an area with glass curtains and as previously mentioned you do have to get the correct permissions before installing.

We use ours constantly. I’d say from April to November we don’t using our living room at all. Glass curtains are open during the day, we have a TV in that area so evening time as the temperature drops we just close the curtains across one by one. During the winter months they actually provide extra insulation for indoors and depending on the orientation of your house that area could possibility be warmer than sitting inside.
Absolutely wouldn’t be without ours and the only maintenance you need is to spray the runners from time to time.after a few years you’d also need to replace the seals.

The only negative is cleaning them!

Thoroughly recommend Gino

Thank you all for your reply’s

Yes I was thinking of the ones that fold right back to one side so that you can get access to clean both sides easily, the sliding windows are impossible to clean properly because they slide over each other.

Yes cleaning each panel is easy, because of the way they fold.

What I meant about cleaning was that the curtains show every handprint, from opening and closing  - if we remember we try to use a cloth to do so.

Also after rain or dust they show every mark and the sun then highlights the rain stained windows, which are impossible to ignore because of their size. They’re not difficult to clean, it’s just an additional job - and I hate cleaning windows.

What about those blinds that pull down. Bit like caravan awnings ?

Toldos is the Spanish name for the ‘sun canopy’ you are perhaps thinking of.

Hi there

Yes I have glass curtains on my balcony. They were great to start with, but now with age not so easy to travel to fully open the balcony.
