Hello all, could anyone please tell me the cost of having our house deeds (Spanish) translated into English as well... also who does this type of thing. Will ask our lawyer too but just want a general idea of cost to compare.

Thank you

I personally don't see the point, as most of it is pretty long-winded, and certainly not worth paying much for.

However, if it's something you really want to do, when you ask your lawyer for a price, also ask if they'll give you the computer file from which it was generated. If this is in a common format you can open on your computer, you could just copy the text to run through Google Translate.

The alternative would be to do good quality scans (at 600 dpi) and save images in .jpg format. I've got Abbyy FineReader ocr program, and could turn them into editable text.

If you want me to run them through Abbyy, let me know and I'll send you a PM with my email address.

If you do scans, it's best to remove staples so each page is completely flat. If the pages are printed on both sides, put a piece of black paper or card on top of the page you scan, as the bright light of the scanner will see through the paper and pick up a partial image of what's on the reverse.

Thank you Jim, very helpful indeed. We tried doing it on google translate but it was a long drawn out time consuming project. It is not all the info we need on there just what we own sq metre and whether there is any limitations for anything.

Regards

Susan
