I’ve noticed numerous properties for sale which have been renovated and they mostly boast wooden/laminated floors. They look wonderful   My question, is this flooring simply laid on top of a tiled floor?  Where would I go to make enquiries?  I’m sure it would be an easier job to have this installed as opposed to having new tiles fitted.  The prospect of lifting everything out of the lounge and placed on the patio over a period of time it would take to tile, nightmare!!  How do people do it??

I  would  not  recommend  you  install  and  Timber  floors  in  Bathroom  or  a Kitchen  or any room  that  that   has  water  connections,  it  will  be  troublesome,

Tiles  are  Miles  better,  it  is  possible to  Tile  on top  of  Tiles,  but  might  need  to  Cut  bottom  of  Doors,  but  i  would  be  careful  with  main  Entrance  and  rear  door,

Not the cheapest, but Leroy Merlin are arguably the best place to go to explore the options.

The make that is most recommended is Artens.

You can if you wish fit the ends of the laminate into a track, or just let them fit under a narrow skirting board attached to the wall. And divider pieces are normally fitted under doors.

To protect against any possibility of rising damp, you need at least a thin sheet of plastic on top of the tiles.

If the tiles are uneven, then you can use thicker 'underlays' which effectively smooth out the surface. This will give a slight bit of a bounce when you walk on the laminate.

Bear in mind that you may need to plane off some wood from the bottoms of the doors.

A Spanish friend had his whole house done, by a fitter arranged by Leroys, and I couldn't fault the workmanship.

An alternative, which isn't often mentioned, is Karndean vinyl flooring, which should be more resistant to damage than laminate.

Karndean can be laid floating, like laminate, or it can be glued down.

Agree  with  most  of  what  you  mentioned,  but  plastic  on  top  of  Tiles, no  way,  There  is  3mm   or  5  mm  Flooring  underlay,  it  comes  in  1 m  wide  roles,  it  is  widely  used, there  is  Timber Flooring  that  can  be  Glued  down  on   Tiles,  Adhesive  can  be Rapid  Harding,

Plastic  under Flooring  is  liable   to sweating  and  can  cause  Flooring  to Spring  up.

Flooring  that  can be  Glued  down  is  expensive  route  to  go

Rose, you can buy ceramic tiles with a wooden floor effect, they look fantastic.

Just as a guide, I was quoted between €3000 & €3500 for the work, to cover the whole of a small apt of 55sqm plus tiles app €750. That was to remove the old tiles first. Skirting boards cut from the same new tiles.

It is a big job that couldn't be done without dust being created but it all cleans up with a bit of effort or pay a cleaner.

Ken.

Scratches,  mopping the floor,  water/liquid spills or plumbing problems,  humidity,  etc.  will not effect a tiled floor as it is permanent.
