Hi, I've been using my full house air con to heat my house and unfortunately although the sensor and remote both show its ok, I'm not getting any warm air. The fan in the condenser, or whatever it's called, isn't working but the unit is making a noise like it's running. A bit like a fridge.

Any ideas or does this sound like a costly replacement bill

Have you tried cleaning the filters? They come off and can be brushed clean or put under a tap for a while. Often get clogged with dust and fluff. I clean ours twice a year which seems to keep them working properly.

You will need a new fan for the exterior unit or maybe just the capacitor . An electrician could do this for you.If you can try to spin the fan in the direction it should go and if this works it is just the capacitor. only about 10 Euros.

As an ex air con engineer:

Is the fan on the indoor unit running

Air filters clean

Remove the filters and touch the aluminium fins with the back of your hand or fingers, if the system is in heating mode then the fins should be warm / hot

You say the fan on the outdoor unit is not working, while in heating mode the fan should run at full speed with the compressor running, the fan would only stop while the system goes into auto defrost when the outside coils “ice up”

Is there any heat to the aluminium fins on the outside unit

Feel the two copper pipes attached to the outdoor unit, a small pipe and a slightly larger pipe, in heating mode these will be warm/hot, in cooling mode cold

If the compressor is running and there is no heat to the indoor fins while in heating mode or no heat to the outside fins while in cooling mode, then there is a big chance the system has lost refrigerant gas.

There could be other issues of course such as the compressor not pumping, reversing valve stuck etc

Hi, thanks for replies. Had it serviced November, and it worked in December and when I arrived back late January. Literally stopped the night before we left. It's about 15 years old, so just wondering whether it's worth a the cost of a repair or whether I bite the bullet...I know it's my choice. Looks like a service call and then a decision call

Was it not working prior to getting it serviced, if it was recharged with gas when it was serviced and has lost it’s charge again then I would be looking at a new system, they are certainly cheap enough in Spain

Again thanks for replies. It has worked without problems since we’ve had it installed.
goin to get it checked through as to whether a repair is cost effective. If not looks like a replacement… thx for help

The gas is NOT used it is inside permanently unless it has a leak.
